Settings you can manage across your accounts in an Accounts Center

Updated:17 weeks ago
WhatsApp in Accounts Center isn't available everywhere.

You can manage certain account settings across your Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads and Meta accounts in Accounts Center.

You can find Accounts Center on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp or from your Meta account, in settings.

You can choose to move accounts into or out of an Accounts Center at any time. If a Facebook, Instagram, Threads or Meta account is moved out of an Accounts Center, that account will live in its own Accounts Center where you can manage settings. If you move a WhatsApp account out of an Accounts Center, you won’t be able to manage settings for that account in Accounts Center.

Note: Not all settings managed in Accounts Center are available for WhatsApp and Threads at this time. Learn more about which settings are available for WhatsApp and Treads in Accounts Center.

Settings that apply across accounts in the same Accounts Center

To make it easier to control your preferences across your accounts in one place, there are some settings that must be the same across all accounts in the same Accounts Center. These settings include some of your ad preferences, for example.

When needed, we’ll adjust these settings to match across your accounts and profiles, if you add accounts to the same Accounts Center that previously had different setting selections (for example, your Facebook and Instagram accounts have different ad topic preferences). You can change these settings in Accounts Center, under Account settings, at any time.

The birthday you provide when you set up your Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Threads or Meta account helps us to personalize your experience, to provide age-appropriate experiences for our users and to ensure that underage people aren’t using our platforms. Learn more about why we ask for your birthday. Birthdays need to match across all accounts in an Accounts Center.

If you add a new account that has a different birthday than your other accounts in an Accounts Center, we may ask you to select your accurate birthday before your new account can be added. Once you add your accounts to an Accounts Center, you may be asked to verify your age if you try to access certain experiences and features.

You can visit your ad preferences within Accounts Center settings, where you can manage things like your Ad topics, interests and your profile information to get a more personalized experience.

Some ad preferences are applied to all your accounts added to the same Accounts Center. You can read more about how your ads preferences apply to your accounts or visit your ad preferences for more information.

Within ads preferences, you can also see your recent ad activity or advertisers you’ve recently seen on your Instagram and Facebook accounts you’ve added to the same Accounts Center. If you are under 18 (or under 20 in Thailand), some ads settings will no longer be relevant to you, and you won't have access to those settings.

To help influence your ad experience on Facebook or Instagram, you can choose to see fewer ads about certain topics like alcohol, gambling, parenting or pets. If you add accounts to the same Accounts Center (for example your Facebook and Instagram accounts), we'll adjust this setting to match across your accounts.

For ad topics you’ve selected to see less of, we’ve applied that preference to all accounts in the same Accounts Center.

For example, if you chose to see less ads about parenting on your Instagram account, and you chose to see less ads about alcohol on your Facebook account, we’ll adjust your ad topic preferences across both accounts to show less ads about both parenting and alcohol.

You can choose what profile information is used to help personalize your ads. You can also choose whether advertisers can reach you based on other categories that we associate with you. You can review these categories and remove yourself at any time.

You can adjust this setting to choose whether we use your activity information sent from ad partners to show you ads.

If you’ve turned off the Activity information from ad partners setting on any of the accounts in an Accounts Center, we’ll apply that choice for all accounts in that Accounts Center.

Advertisers can choose to show ads to certain audiences. You can view the advertisers whose audiences you have been included in based on your information or activity off-Meta technologies, and decide whether we can show you ads based on this information.

Your activity off-Meta technologies is a summary of activity that businesses and organizations share with us about your interactions, such as visiting their apps or websites. They use our Business Tools, like Facebook Login or Facebook Pixel, to share this information with us. You can choose to disconnect your activity off-Meta at any time.

If you add accounts to the same Accounts Center that have different activity off-Meta technologies settings, and at least one account has disconnected activity off-Meta technologies, then we’ll disconnect this activity for all accounts in the same Accounts Center.

Move accounts out of an Accounts Center with other accounts to manage settings individually

You can move accounts out of an Accounts Center at any time if you’d like to manage these settings differently for each account in their own Accounts Center. Once you move an account out of an Accounts Center, any changes that were made to these settings while the accounts were in that Accounts Center, including the settings we adjusted for you, will still apply to these accounts. The settings will not revert to the selection made before adding the account to an Accounts Center.

Note: If you move a WhatsApp account out of an Accounts Center, you won’t be able to manage settings for that account in Accounts Center.

Settings you can manage individually for your accounts in an Accounts Center

Note: Not all of the settings listed below are available for WhatsApp or Threads in Accounts Center.

You can find the following settings in Accounts Center, under Account settings:

  • Personal details: Update your contact information, birthday, manage your identity confirmation, adjust your memorialization preferences, delete or deactivate your account or profile.
  • Password and security: Manage your password, manage 2-factor authentication, manage login alerts, login activity and where you’re logged in.
  • Your information and permissions: Adjust how you upload contacts or manage your search history. You can also download, access, transfer or manage your information.
  • Payments: Manage settings for Meta Pay.

For each of these settings, you can make different choices across your accounts in the same Accounts Center. For example, you can choose different passwords for your Facebook, Instagram or Meta accounts or have different Meta Pay selections.

Additional Facebook profiles in Accounts Center

You can manage certain profile settings including your name, username, profile picture and/or avatar for each additional Facebook profile you have in an Accounts Center. You can also delete, deactivate and/or reactivate additional profiles under Personal Details.

Settings that are not moving to Accounts Center

You can still manage settings that only affect your experience on a single app within the settings menu on that specific app. These settings include:

  • Preferences that are specific to that experience (for example, Activity Log for Facebook, Notifications for Instagram, language settings for Meta Quest)
  • Device settings for a specific app (for example, Dark mode, Media Settings - Video and Photos, Cellular data usage)
  • Who can see and interact with you and your posts in a specific app (Profile Locking, Profile and Tagging)
